Protective Cuffs for Ankles - Safety and Security

The Protective Cuffs for Ankles offer security, safety and practical advantages during transport of prisoners and are a helpful utensil when using leg shackles.

When Leg shackles have to be used - for example during the transport of prisoners or when dealing with especially defensive and aggressive individuals - several problems can occur. Including injuries to the ankles through ill-fitting restraints or sharp edges. Also the friction of the restraints on the clothes can result in a fast wear out. The protective cuffs can help in these cases.

Protective Cuffs for the Preservation of Clothing

Leg shackles should not be closed to tight in order to prevent injuries or cutting off the blood circulation. Due to the movement during walking while wearing shackles there is friction on the textiles. The material wears out faster and wholes as well as rips can appear in pants and socks. The protective cuffs can prevent the wear out and weakening of the fabric and therefore save costs in the long run.

Protective Cuffs for Leg Shackles as Security against Injuries

When using leg shackles they have to be fitted tight enough to prevent slipping them off even when shoes and socks are pulled off. However, due to walking and sitting the ankles and legs can swell up. If the leg shackles have direct skin contact, or are only separated through thin fabric and are too tight, they can cause cuts and bruises to the skin and the tissue beneath.

Because of the protective cuffs the pressure is distributed more equally and the edges are being padded. The risk for injuries is reduced significantly. The cuffs can also be used when the restrained person has an allergy against nickel and the leg shackles contain the material or are plated with it.

Protective Cuffs for Higher Safety

Very slender and thin ankles - for example of women, smaller men or very thin individuals with a filigree built - even leg shackles with a small circumference can be too loose. This in turn heightens the risk of attempts at flight, stumbling, falling and therefore injuries of the prisoner.

If the protective cuffs are worn even the circumference of very thin ankles can be increased. The protective padding adds to the optimal fit of restraints and can be used to decrease the circumference of the shackles. Due to the length of 35 centimetre per protective cuff and the practical as well as easy to use velcro fastener, the protective cuffs can be fitted without a problem and show themselves to be simple as practical and helpful.

Cleaning respectively washing the protective cuff for leg shackles is similarly easy and simple. They can be washed in the machine at temperatures up to 60 degree Celsius in order to allow for a hygienic use.
